Azusa Campus Evacuation Drills
September 30, 2008

In continued efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment, APU’s Incident Command Team will conduct evacuation drills of all campus buildings to help our community practice and prepare in the event that an actual evacuation is needed.

Two separate drills will take place on Wednesday, October 8 and Thursday, October 9 at the Azusa campus. One drill will occur on both East and West Campus.

We ask for your full cooperation during these tests. We recognize these drills may interrupt your work and class schedules, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please adhere to the following directions when the alarm sounds, or if you are notified by email, phone, or verbally of the evacuation:

  • Faculty: Please be sure all students exit the classroom and move to the nearest evacuation site.
  • Staff: Follow the directions of your designated building and floor coordinators and proceed to the nearest evacuation site.
  • Students: Follow the directions of your professor, university staff, or resident advisor and proceed to the nearest evacuation site.
  • Everyone: Remain with your group while faculty and building coordinators take attendance. Notify the building coordinators or other emergency personnel at your site if everyone is accounted for, or if anyone is missing.
  • Remain at the evacuation site until you are excused by a building coordinator or other emergency team official. Please do not enter your vehicles or leave campus until the exercise is over.

All trolleys will stop during the drills, and will resume their normal routes as soon as each drill is completed. This may result in delays for students trying to get to class.

Regional centers will not be included in this drill. However, we encourage all regional center students to review appropriate evacuations procedures at their location.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions regarding proper procedures for your area, contact your building coordinator, the chair of your department, or your resident advisor.
