C.H.A.M.P. Graduation Celebrates Local Students

WHO:
Azusa Pacific University’s Center for Academic Service Learning and Research and more than 250 local fourth grade students

WHAT:
College Headed and Mighty Proud (C.H.A.M.P.) graduation is the culminating event for a nine-week service learning project that partners undergraduate Teacher Education majors with fourth grade students from the Azusa Unified School District (AUSD).

Richard and Vivian Felix Event Center on APU’s West Campus
701 E. Foothill Blvd., Azusa, Calif.

WHEN:
Wed., Nov. 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

WHY:
Through the C.H.A.M.P. Program, APU students encourage local fourth graders to pursue higher education. Founded in 1991, C.H.A.M.P. is a collaborative effort between APU and local elementary schools that encourage children talk about their future dreams and goals of attending college.

FACTS:

  • Fourth grade students from Lee Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, and Powell Elementary will graduate at this event.
  • Administrators from AUSD and APU and members of the Foothills Sunrise Rotary and Azusa Rotary Clubs will attend. Mariachi de Azusa will perform at the start of the program.
