APU and DCFS Workshop: Social Workers Train to Help Students with Learning Disabilities Prepare for College

WHO:
Azusa Pacific University’s Department of Social Work and the Glendora/El Monte offices of the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS)

WHAT:
APU and the Department of Child and Family Services host “College is for Everyone,” a free workshop that prepares social workers to help students with learning disabilities access resources to pursue a college education. Social workers from DCFS, APU, and the Azusa Unified School District are expected to attend.

WHEN:
Wed., June 11, from 8:30-12 p.m.

WHERE:
Azusa Pacific University’s Wilden Hall on East Campus
901 E. Alosta Ave., Azusa, Calif.

FACTS:
Speakers include: Jennifer Mcleod, DSP&S coordinator/counselor/learning disabilities specialist at Citrus College, who will present “Qualifying, applying, and understanding Disabled Student Services in Community Colleges”; Rosemary Harrahill, DCFS educational liaison, who will discuss “CSW Role in Assisting Learning Disabled Youth Transition to College”; and Gayle Parker-Tate and Phyllis Wilcher, DCFS independent living coordinators, who will present “What’s New with ILP.”

Previously, APU has collaborated with the Department of Child and Family Services to support foster care and adoption through conferences and workshops.
