March 13, 2008
AZUSA, Calif. –
WHO:
WHAT:
Lecture: “Fine Tuning in the Universe”
WHERE:
Los Angeles Pacific College (LAPC) Banquet Room on APU’s East Campus
901 E. Alosta Ave., Azusa
WHEN:
Wed., March 26, 6-7:30 p.m.
WHY:
CRIS invites lecturers to discuss current issues of science and theology to educate students and the community on the evidence for God’s handiwork in the universe, and to equip Christians to defend their faith through science.
FACTS:
In the last 50 years, scientists have discovered that the basic structure of the universe is balanced on a razor’s edge for the existence of life, something which has come to be known as “cosmic fine-tuning.” After presenting the scientific evidence for this claim, Collins will argue that this fine-tuning provides good evidence for some sort of divine design of the cosmos. He will also briefly address two other major non-theistic responses to this evidence.
Collins’ areas of expertise include: science and religion, philosophy of religion, philosophical theology and comparative metaphysics, philosophy of science, philosophy of physics, and metaphysics. He received a Ph.D. from University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind.
