Celebrating Hispanic Poetry La Velada Poética

WHO:
The Center for Academic Service Learning and Research, Spanish majors, and Gladstone High School Advanced Placement students

WHAT:
The Center for Academic Service Learning and Research hosts an evening of poetry called, “La Velada Poética.” Guests are invited to enjoy Hispanic culture expressed through creative poetry presented by Gladstone High School Advanced Placement students and APU Spanish Language students.

Munson Chapel, located on APU’s East Campus
901 E. Alosta Ave., Azusa, Calif.

Fri., Nov. 17, 6 p.m.

WHY:
The Center for Academic Service Learning and Research offers a time for celebration while students share their poetry and short stories. Students will perform Spanish poems and short stories to a live audience of family, friends, and APU community members.

FACTS:

  • 36 students from an AP Spanish class at Gladstone high school team up with 7 students from APU professor Aroldo Solorzano’s Spanish Poetry and Short Story class to present poetry.
  • Groups will creatively interpret poems written by outstanding Peninsular and Latin American poets including Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Jose Espronceda, Ruben Dario Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda, Nicolas Guillen, and Federico Garcia Lorca.
