Eaton Named Director of Center for Research for Ethics and Values

AZUSA, Calif. –

San Marino, Calif. resident Mark Eaton, Ph.D., has accepted the position as director of Azusa Pacific University’s Center for Research for Ethics and Values (CREV).

As director, Eaton promotes research in ethics and values across disciplines. The center aims to encourage, nurture, and support faculty research on ethics and values. Eaton’s also oversees a semester-long CREV Faculty Seminar each year, consisting of seven faculty members engaged in an ongoing research project.

“Dr. Eaton brings a rich background of academic experience and scholarship to Center for Research for Ethics and Values. He has a clear vision for encouraging scholarship that addresses Christian ethics and values across the academic disciplines,” said Rose Liegler, Ph.D., vice provost for graduate and adult programs.

Eaton sees the role as an opportunity to use his strengths in research and writing to encourage and support others in their scholarly agendas. The goals of CREV include expanding the knowledge regarding leaders and educational cultures that are effective in promoting the development of caring, moral, ethical, and responsible children, youth, and young adults and promoting connectedness across generations, disciplines, and cultures for the benefit of the young.

Eaton, professor in the Department of English, has earned a rich record of scholarship and honors during his academic career. After graduating from Boston University with a Ph.D. in 1996, he accepted an academic appointment at Oklahoma City University from 1996-2000 and came to APU later in 2000. During his tenure, Eaton received Accomplished Scholar Awards, the Alice V. Watkins Faculty Diversity Award, and Creative Teaching and Research Grant Awards. In spring 2006, he completed a Visiting Research Fellowship at Rothermere American Institute, Oxford University. Eaton also served as interim director of the Office of Undergraduate Research in 2004 and interim director of APU’s Honors Program from 2004-05.
