Political Science Major

Political science is concerned with the knowledge that is needed by citizens and government officials. This knowledge is required to make and recognize good laws, distinguish justice from injustice, and understand the legitimate purposes and necessary limits of political power. The political science major prepares students to take an informed, intelligent, and leading role in the affairs of their community, country, and world. In addition to classroom, research, and seminar experiences, students are encouraged to become directly involved in politics through internship experiences on the local, state, or national level.

What About Internship and Graduate School Opportunities?

In recent years, graduates have been accepted into law programs at Harvard University, University of Chicago, Boston University, Arizona State University, University of Virginia, and Pepperdine University, among others. A growing number of students are entering graduate programs in public administration and other fields. Our students participate in internships with government, research, and law through the American Studies Program in Washington, DC, congressional offices, and other legislative, judicial, and executive offices of the federal government.

“I have really enjoyed the philosophical study implemented in the political science major. Understanding the origin of politics, along with the differing views for obtaining justice, has helped me establish grounds for my political and ethical opinions.”
