Student Learning Outcomes

  • To develop critical skills for appreciating, evaluating, and selecting literature using resources available to assist that process with due regard to censorship issues and with sensitivity to multicultural concerns.
  • Effectively articulate and assess one's own experiential learning via the Kolb model.
  • Be able to articulate the elements that contribute to making quality works of literature.
  • Demonstrate understanding of various art forms and their relationship to particular historic eras.

This program, designed for the adult learner, emphasizes convenience, practicality, and relevance.

  • Professors use students’ experiences as the foundation upon which theory and practice are tested.
  • Major theoretical concepts are integrated throughout the courses.
  • The HDEV Program provides students with a background in the liberal arts and sciences grounded in human behavior, social issues, and a Christian worldview.
  • Students in the program study in a cohort and progress through the entire program together.
  • Classes can start at anytime during the year when an 18-24 student cohort forms.
  • The program can be completed in just 19 months.
  • Classes meet one night a week for four hours, from 6-10 p.m.
  • Classes meet in regional centers conveniently located throughout Southern California.
  • California’s Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) has approved this alternative program of subject-matter preparation for elementary school teachers and K-12 special education school teachers.
  • Small classes ensure focused student-teacher interaction.
