Student Learning Outcomes

  • Develop a functional understanding of the principle and theory of data structures.
  • Acquire relevant technical knowledge in order to build: Gantt charts, context diagrams, data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, HIPO diagrams, ER diagrams, and structure charts.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of database applications using a relational database management system such as Microsoft AccessTM.
  • Demonstrate skills using the fundamental program flow-of-control constructs: sequence, selection, and iteration in an even-driven environment.
  • Differentiate data link-layer protocols (Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, etc.) form the upper-layer protocols, including protocol suites (TCP/IP), Apple Talk, ISX/SPX, etc.
  • Complete an Internet application that utilizes PHP and AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript and XML).

  • The MIS/CIS Program prepares students for advancement in the information technology field.
  • Professors use students' experiences as the foundation upon which theory and practice are tested.
  • Major theoretical concepts are integrated throughout the modules instead of being localized in individual courses.
  • All functional areas of business computing, from applications to microcode, are covered.
  • Classes start in the fall and spring when an 18-24 student cohort forms.
  • Students in the program study in a cohort and progress through the entire program together.
  • The program takes 15 months to complete.
  • Students take one class at a time, one night a week, meeting for a four-hour session from 6-10 p.m. Each course takes five weeks to complete. There are approximately 64 class sessions.
