Pre-Psy.D. Program Overview

The Pre-Psy.D. Option

If you do not have a master’s degree prior to entering the Psy.D. Program, APU offers an alternative that prepares you for this direction. The Pre-Psy.D. Program is a one-year sequence of foundational graduate courses in psychology that prime you to engage with the Psy.D. curriculum. In addition, en route to your Psy.D., you have the opportunity to acquire a master's degree in clinical psychology at the end of your first year in the Psy.D. Program.

Two Entrance Pathways to the Psy.D. Program

Students may enter the Psy.D. in one of two categories. See diagram below.

  1. With an existing master’s degree in clinical psychology or while enrolled in a master’s program in clinical psychology
  2. Directly from completion of a bachelor’s degree or with a master’s degree that is not in clinical psychology
