Soccer Facility
Conceptual Rendering
Representing the next phase of developing the physical facilities to support a nationally-recognized soccer program, Azusa Pacific University is hoping to install new lighting for the Cougar Soccer Complex by summer 2009.
This project will enhance the versatility of the facility and support the development of a program rich in sporting achievement and personal development, through:
- Extending training time for current student athletes.
- Increasing opportunities to host competitive NAIA matches.
- Augmenting APU’s soccer recruiting program.
In addition to resourcing the athletic program, Azusa Pacific recognizes campus sporting facilities are important social and recreational destinations. New lights will enable increased campus and community use of the facility for alumni games, soccer youth camps, the Viva Azusa! soccer league, and more.
The Cougar men’s soccer program, led by head coach Phil Wolf, has won the NAIA national title (2007) and claimed the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) title six times. The women’s soccer program has progressed to 11 consecutive NAIA finals, won the national championship in 1998, and was GSAC title holder seven of the last ten seasons. Head coach Jason Surrell (’96) has been GSAC coach of the year five times.
